Local Attractions
Smith Lake Dam
One of the largest earth- and rock-filled dams in the Eastern United States, the Lewis Smith Dam was constructed at the Sipsey Fork tributary. It was named in honor of Lewis Martin Smith, who was president of Alabama Power from 1952 to 1957. Smith Dam was the first of three Alabama Power Company projects on the Black Warrior river. In 1965, FERC authorized Alabama Power to build a powerhouse at Holt Lock and Dam.

Clarkson Covered Bridge
One of Cullman's most well known attractions and historically rich sites, Clarkson Covered Bridge, originally built in 1904, and was once used regularly by farmers and travelers to cross Crooked Creek. The weatherworn bridge is now closed to traffic, and the centerpiece of a park built in period fashion to showcase the bridge and its historical significance.
The Williams Cabin
A true log cabin, built in the 1950s by a local Boy Scout group, and held by the Williams Brothers for years until its placement at Fire Tower Camp.
The Fire Truck

Ave Maria Grotto
The Ave Maria Grotto, a unique four-acre park in Cullman, Alabama, features 125 miniature reproductions of famous religious sites and buildings, created by Benedictine monk Brother Joseph Zoettl, and is nestled on the grounds of St. Bernard Abbey.
Bankhead Forest
Bankhead Forest is a National Forest near Smith Lake that covers over 180,000 acres. It is home to the Sipsey River, one of the main rivers that fills Smith Lake, along with the Sipsey Wilderness which is Alabama's largest Federally Designated Wilderness Area.

Boat & Jet Ski Rental Options are available! Contact a local rental company to have watercraft waiting for you when you arrive! Local options include Cappy's, Smith Lake Jet Ski Rentals, Smith Lake Boating Adventures, and Duncan Bridge Marina. Plus, Fire Tower Camp guests can launch their boat using our private, paved boat ramp, and may park on site for the duration of their stay.
Cullman Christkindlmarkt
Experience the magic of Cullman Christkindlmarkt, a festive German-inspired Christmas market in downtown Cullman. Enjoy ice skating, a grand Ferris wheel, traditional crafts, and seasonal treats. Open November 20 through December 23, it's a perfect holiday outing near Fire Tower Camp.
